Shibari bondage: what is it and how to practice shibari?
Once upon a time, in Japan appeared the beauty of tight binding called Kinbaku-bi. It was an intriguing style of restraining a person with the patterns of a rope.
Its roots go from Japanese military and police custody and slavery. And in the next years, Western culture absorbed this tradition of binding someone and created shibari, which is primarily an erotic art form. This act requires roles, where roper usually called a rigger and the tied person a bunny or just a model.
Now, as we learned some history and terminology, we can move to more practical things.
What to use?
Rope. As simple as it sounds, you should decide what kind to use. There are two options: non-stretchy natural fiber like jute or hemp, and also softer materials like cotton, silk, or polyester. Cotton one is the best for practicing. It's easy to tie, easy to wash, and comes in different colors.
In the case of natural fiber, it has more grip. That's crucial for shibari because it's a wrapping technique. It allows feeling sort of vibration just by going across the skin. And it feels completely different from using synthetic ropes.
How to prepare the rope?
We know that you want to start right away but take a moment here. You should prepare a rope before the actual scene.
- Boil hemp or jute to soften it.
- Dry it under tension, so won't lose shape.
- Get rid of villi with flame.
- Oil it a little.
Tips for tops.
1. If you are new to this technique but want to try it, remember that shibari is a learned skill. Don't study it from porn. First of all, porn is entertainment. And second of all, it's like learning how to ride a bike by watching Tour de France on TV. Fun but not informative. Better watch some tutorials on YouTube.
2. Watch where you put knots. It's better to do tie rope over the chest, upper arms, thighs, and hips. Because if you put it on soft tissues, you can cause nerve damage. Also, stay away from neckties until you are sure about your attainments.
3. Never leave a tied person alone. Because you always need to be prepared to pick up on his/her body language.
Tips for bottoms.
1. A bottom is not a silent person. So, please, if something is going wrong, tell. Don't let the situation accidentally damage your body or much worse – your mental health.
2. Know why you are doing it. Maybe you had a bad experience in bondage, so you want to recover from it. Or you want to put a closure on some issues with vulnerability by feeling the closeness and full confidence in the partner. Know your aim and go for it.
3. Don't keep your body language lockdown. You should move and feel like a flow. In another case, how your top will know whether you like it or not?
Last but not least, a friendly reminder from Anoeses. You are the one who can make this experience unforgettable. So take the responsibility in your hands. It's the high emotional purpose of BDSM practice.
